What I really love about this bible besides the easy to understand translation is the introduction at the beginning of each Section of this Bible is a summary of the book and bullet points on noteworthy events. Its really helpful especially for someone that may be reading the Bible for the first time. I had tried to read the Bible before with a lot of difficulty understanding and I have been reading this Bible almost daily since I have gotten it because of the fact I am able to understand it without having to continually stop and look up what the text means.
I have a friend who never read the Bible. She tried, but she started with the Old testament and could not get beyond the begets and words she did not understand. I was educated by nuns so the Bible was familiar turf to me, but to her, she was overwhelmed. She felt bad about it, and mentioned it to me one day and I started searching for a book that EXPLAINS things, and puts it in simple English. This is THAT Book. Not inexpensive (unless you get lucky) it is something anyone with an 6th grade education can read. She is still very much intimidated and has yet to get the courage to dive in, but that is her..anyone who wants to know the gist of the Bible without doing the genealogy and who has a limited vocabulary will find this book the answer.
I really enjoy this book and I read it along with my kjv for better understanding, still love The original kjv scriptures better but when I can’t under stand what I am reading, I go to this bible, which has everything in plain English and is very easy to read and understand.
I love the contemporary version, but was disappointed when these arrived. The pages are so thin that not only can you see the words on the backside of the page, but even the entire next page. It's way too distracting and hard to read... which also means that highlighter and pen writings probably bleed through the pages too. All 3 that I ordered to share with family are being returned for another version. This should be advertised as a thin letter bible, as that's what it really is.
Love the CEV Bible, but the Kindle version is hard to use because it has no table of contents. I wanted this clear version to use for Bible Study, but without a table of contents, I can't easily get around. There is a great deal of explanation before you even get to the Bible books listing, If that at least was at the front, I could use it. For reading straight through, it's great, but if you are getting it to do Bible Study, this format will not work. Now, if any readers have figured out how to get around this, I'd love to hear about it, because it's a great translation.
I'm a youth pastor and I use this translation exclusively. The language is easy to read and understand. There are a few translation issues, but the benefits far outweigh the problems. For instance, Jesus taught in riddles instead of parables. The translators also chose to translate charis as undeserved grace rather than just grace. Honestly, these are minor issues, and I teach around them. The translators want people to be able to pick this up and read it and understand it. They succeeded. My students are mostly impoverished and have a poor education. When we were using HSB! They didn't want to read aloud. They didn't really understand what we read either. It's great to see them read fluently, understand it, and talk about it. I reccomend this translation to anyone, especially for people who have never read through the Bible before. The only downside is there is many songs quote or paraphrase KJV or NIV. So those connections will be lost.
Discovered this Bible in hardcover over 10 years ago and fell in love with the very clear, contemporary translation. The weight of the hardcover version presented problems for me when I carried it to Bible Study classes and Worship Services. I frequently searched for an electronic version. I found it at Kindle and immediately purchased it. I have been unable to navigate through it because, for some reason, I am unable to view the Table of Contents or to conduct a search for a specific book or verse. I don't have this problem with other Bibles. Because of this inconvenience, I only use it while at home.Pro: Good translation of the BibleCon: Difficult to navigate
Wonderful bible! I do love the KJV but when we read it seemed hard for my 11 and 9 year old boys to understand, I would catch them daydreaming, BUT when we receive this bible they where so into it I had there full attention! They even wanted to take turns reading it!If we are unsure of some wording we just look into our KJV to make sure it has the same meaning. All in all I recommend it to anyone with young children.
