A fascinating look backstage at the world of competitive gymnastics through the eyes of a world champion. i found it interesting to read about her childhood, her family, and the earliest beginnings of her interest in gymnastics, and to lear about her coaches and the intense training regimen it took to achieve the skills she achieved. It opened my eyes to a whole world I was unfamiliar with. The book is well-written and easy to read. Simone is an exceptionally gifted young woman who takes a real joy in her career as an athlete and also enjoys her family and friends. it made me happy to read about her and her accomplishments.

I bought this as a stocking stuffers for my 8 year old budding gymnast. She was so excited about reading it, that she started reading it from the moment it arrived and never put it down.I read several pages of it with her, and personally can't wait until she is done so I can read it too....lol.

So inspirational. I can't understand why she didn't thank Aly personally in the acknowledgments. The book tells of her life's triumphs and setbacks as well as life lessons she learned along the way. Finished this in one day. Couldn't put it down.

My daughter loves Simone! She was so inspired by her during the Olympics we got this book so she could do her first book report (she is 8). She really enjoyed the book and learned a great deal from this remarkable young athlete's story.

I'm normally not your biography sort, but after seeing Simone's fantastic performances, I had to read this.And I don't regret it. The print is large (about size 14) , so it's quick and easy, but there's good humor and lessons within the stories. Simone constantly tells what she's accomplished, yet never boasts. Whether talking about how Simone was adopted by her grandparents or a funny bee incident at a gymnastics competition, it's engaging and fast-paced. I kept reading stories out loud to share with the family.I'd even say Simone makes a good role model. Maybe some parents wouldn't like how she wanted a belly ring or didn't let her parents know about mischief she and her sister got into, but her perseverance and hard work set a good example for all readers.

The book overall is an easy read, and has a conversational tone. I think it is appropriate for those age seven and up. However, the topics remain at the surface and without true exploration or meaning to the reader. For instance, although she describes the time line of her early years, it is with minimal detail, emotion, or even recollection. Decent for a young readers book, but left this family wanting more...

This was a gift for a young gymnast. This is the first book she's read completely through on her own & she loved it so much she read it at every opportunity straight through. I think an avid reader has just been created!

Very inspirational. There are a lot of books about fanous athletes, but with her difficult background, this one has content worth reading. It's a great book for tween and teen girls who are facing adversity, and need some encouragement that they can have a bright future.

Of all the pundits and gurus available, this author has the best most practical approach to trading. The techniques are viable and the Channel Breakout strategy is fundamental to trading successfully. Courtney has taken Turtle Trading to a new refined level where the risks are manageable and has techniques to improve the performance of the basic system. This volume is devoted to Forex, though the techniques are applicable to stocks and futures as well as Forex, so when I studied his other works I was familiar with the approach. The techniques Courtney outlines are easy enough to understand with some study. Objective strategies are hard to come by, and this is the focus of his tome. Subjectivity is discouraged, and actual real-world "what do I actually see" is encouraged. Follow the rules as laid out and the results are predictable. He covers the four parts of trading: the Psychology of Trading, or the mindset one must know to survive in the trading environment; Risk Management, an important part of trading so one does not lose one's shirt, still is profitable, and can manage the inevitable losses associated with trading; Fundamental basics for Forex; and mostly the Technical Analysis employed to successfully trade the Channel Breakout and the other trend-following techniques he has in the book, like Coflex, The Bishop, ADX, The Conqueror, and more. Plus, Courtney recommends trading only 15 minutes a day! The idea is that the big money is made on the big moves, and so focus on catching the big moves. Buy your own copy, read it, and see that your own approach to trading is improved!

This book is amazing and I highly recommend it for anyone who is serious about increasing their wealth through forex trading. Just remember to execute flawlessly. You must do everything (exactly as Courtney instructs) that this book says. If you lose money by not following the system precisely, then you only have yourself to blame.

I read all of the glowing reviews so I thought I would pay the money and try it. I just feel there really isn't much here. The most annoying part of the book for me was the really, really small charts and they are flipped over sideways! I had to turn my laptop sideways to try to read them, but they were so small I couldn't read the text or months or anything, which made them pretty useless. Most of the "strategies" seemed vague to me and I didn't really see any examples on how to enter a trade. I also didn't see any unique way to use stochastics either. Anyone who has been in trading for any length of time knows how to use stochastics in divergence so nothing new here.

Met Courney Smith in person. He has no nonsense trading strategies. He's a master trader. ForEx is just another tool in my trading plan. Thanks!

Both a friend of myself and I have purchased this book, and are new to the forex trading game.There is an incredible amount of good information in this book, but it is not easy to extract. We have both reread chapters to try and create a point form list of trade rules to be followed on the various trading methods, and every time we keep finding more info, that it is excellent at reducing losses or increasing gains, hidden for lack of better editing or clarity of writing.I also feel that the graphs used to illustrate some of the trades could be better selected as there must be examples out there with greater clarity than those used.Once the information is extracted, however, this book is I feel an great resource for position and swing traders. Day traders my find some good info, but the book is not aimed at them

These groups formed because of common interests, needs, and goals. While it is unlikely (but not impossible) you will ever find yourself in charge of a group whose sole purpose is to recover the Holy Grail, many of the reasons people banded together in the past still apply today. If you want to be successful as a tour professional, it is essential to understand these reasons.

1.1 Convenient, hassle-free travel

The single biggest reason most people choose group travel is because someone else takes care of all the planning. They want a sense of luxury, the feeling that Jeeves or Max is constantly available to attend to minor details and inconveniences.

The word travel is actually related to the French word travailler, meaning "to work." For people with limited annual vacation time to relax from the stress of today’s work environment, work is the last thing they want to do during their holidays.

Hassle-free travel can be enticing and worth paying for. People expect to be buffered from all worries, including the following specific concerns:

Many people travel solo because they have no one to accompany them, and travel becomes a lonely experience. Tours allow travelers to share the joys of experiencing a new destination with other people. If your passion is painting, it is more fun to chat about the wonders of the Louvre with another enthusiast over a cup of cappuccino or a leisurely dinner than to be closeted in a room with no one but room service for company.

But the author succeeds in describing their unique culture to such an extent that a compelling case is made for the need to preserve humankind’s cultural diversity.If descriptions of far-off and completely different civilizations are to one’s liking than the Last Whalers is probably a good choice. If one is prepared for bloody hunting scenes and short shrift given to traditional cultural topics then the extraordinary actions of the author in learning the Lamaleran dialect and living among them for extensive periods will lead to a rather gripping narrative. In short, a unique contribution to ethnography that is written for the public and not just for anthropologists. Well worth reading.

The Last Whalers is an absolutely extraordinary work. Clark’s portrayal of the Lamalerans, a hunter-gatherer tribe inhabiting a remote Indonesian island, is both fascinating and moving. He expertly shows how the Lamalerans hunt the largest carnivore in history, the sperm whale, using centuries-old technology. By having lived amongst the tribe across three years, the author is able to describe the hunts in stunning and dramatic detail, with the insight of someone intimately familiar with not only the mechanics of the process, but also the history, culture, and people of Lamalera.The stories of the Lamalerans themselves are even more gripping--from a young orphaned whaler waiting for his big break to an aging legendary harpooner struggling to understand his son’s resistance to the traditional way of life. They bravely stand up to the forces of modernization, largely refusing modern technology that would make the hunts easier and far less dangerous, and relying on bartering and gift-giving instead of paper currency. They hold on to the ways of their ancestors, believing that their tradition--however inconvenient--contains their essence, and that by giving it up, they may lose what it means for them to live.The Last Whalers reminds us to consider what we may be losing as we welcome the latest technology and conveniences with open arms. As modernization and globalization threaten the Lamaleran way of life, Clark richly illustrates how they navigate balancing tradition and progress in a way both exotic and familiar.No doubt, the ways of the Lamalerans are vanishing, as are those of thousands of other indigenous people around the world. Reading it was an incredibly moving--and much needed--journey.

Remarkable. Clark paints a vivid and unflinching portrait of life for a community in Indonesia that is - in ways large and small - wrestling with their hunter-gatherer past and an encroaching modern culture. Rather than romanticize the indigenous for its own sake (as many Westerners seem prone to), Clark allows the community to share their own multi-faceted views on their lives...as they were, as they are, and as they imagine them to be. A true accomplishment.

The Last Whalers often reads like a novel as individual villagers share their lives. This a a book about people whose traditional way of life is hanging on by a finger nail. Modern methods of whale and manta ray fishing have almost overcome the practices of centuries. Spiritual beliefs wither away but have not quite expired. These isolated villages on islands in the Sunda Sea are now a part of today's world. This carefully researched book memorializes them and their inhabitants.
